DC’s Flash Puts Fast and the Furious To Shame (But Not How You Think)

This post contains a preview for Flash #786
In a new preview for DC Comics’ The Flash, Wally West and his fellow speedsters are putting The Fast and the Furious franchise to shame (though it really has nothing to do with speed). A major theme in the high-octane films starring Vin Diesel as street racer and ex-convict Dom Toretto, The Fast and Furious films are all about family, a focus that’s repeatedly mentioned by Toretto across the entire Fast saga. As such, the upgraded Flash Family takes that family concept to a whole new level as they work together to save the world in DC’s current Dark Crisis.

In previous issues of The Flash, the Flash Family worked together to find and rescue Barry Allen’s Flash who had been trapped in the multiverse thanks to the villain Pariah. Now, Barry has joined forces with Green Lantern Hal Jordan to save the rest of the similarly trapped Justice League who were believed to be dead. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Wally wife’s Linda has mysteriously gained speed powers of her own, resulting in every member of the West family having a connection to the Speed Force.

Now, Wally and the Flash Family are seen joining the rest of the world’s surviving heroes in the new preview for Flash #786 from writer Jeremy Adams and artist Amancay Nahuelpan. Tying into Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Deathstroke’s army is still at large causing chaos in service to Pariah and the Great Darkness. While teams such as the Justice Society of America, Teen Titans, and Bat-Family will be heading out to cover various regions of the planet, the Flash Family can cover the entire globe multiple times over thanks to their speed and numbers. After all, the core Wests are joined by the greater Flash Family such as Kid Flash, Jessie Quick, Jay Garrick, and Max Mercury (proving that family is their greatest power beyond their speed). Here are the preview pages and the synopsis for the upcoming issue:
FLASH #786 Even by Wally West’s standards, the Flash has been on the run recently-and that’s before he had to help step up in the wake of the loss of the Justice League. And while everything is happening everywhere, he and Linda need to talk…
While Linda and Wally still need to talk about her new speed powers, it’s pretty cool that no one is getting left behind during this new Crisis event. Likewise, it just makes sense that the more speedsters there are working together, the better protected the world will be until the Justice League returns. The rally of speedsters is a lot of fun, serving as the backbone of the plan to keep the world safe with no other team being able to be everywhere all at once (or at least as close as any team could be to total global coverage).
While Dom Toretto sees his crew as his family in the Fast and the Furious franchise, it certainly seems like he’d be impressed by Wally West and his Flash Family (as well as their incredible speed). At the very least, they certainly seem to share similar values on the power of family over anything else. The Flash #786 releases on September 20th.
