Fast & Furious 10 Should Make The Rock & Vin Diesel’s Feud Canon
The feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been going on for years, and Fast and Furious 10 should make it canon. The Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel feud began amid the former making several appearances in The Fast Saga. Diesel is an actor and a producer on the films, and Johnson supposedly took issue with his decisions and how he conducted himself on set. The feud became public during production on the eighth film in the franchise, The Fate of the Furious, with Johnson calling out his co-star in a since-deleted Instagram post. Though the pair had reportedly moved on from their issues, the feud continues to pop up in the news to this day.

Even without each other, Johnson and Diesel have had continued success in the Fast and Furious franchise. Because of the feud, Johnson broke off of the main Fast and Furious films, taking his character, Luke Hobbs, to the Fast and Furious’ first spinoff. Johnson’s movie, 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, earned more than $750 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Diesel continued his run as Dominic Toretto in the main films. Recently, F9 defied box office expectations after premiering at theaters during a global pandemic. The film earned more than $700 million worldwide and was one of the most successful films of 2021.

After years of Johnson and Diesel quarreling, Fast and Furious 10 should finally make the feud canon. Johnson recently said he regrets making the feud public. According to the actor, he wasn’t having his best day when he brought attention to the issues on Fate of the Furious. Though the actors have traded barbs in interviews, the pair seemingly laugh off each other’s comments in the press. Considering Dwayne Johnson’s regrets on the feud and the actors not appearing to take things personally, it seems like the pair are cordial enough to make the feud a part of the Fast and Furious franchise.
Bringing the feud to the big screen could be the best way to end it. The tension between Johnson and Diesel already spilled out onto the Fast and Furious franchise unintentionally. For instance, Johnson refused to appear in scenes with Diesel in Fate of the Furious. But by making the feud canon, Johnson and Diesel can take control of the narrative. The actors could even have fun with it, trading barbs on-screen instead of doing it through the press. Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs is too important to the franchise to write him off. So if Diesel’s Dom is truly about family, he should prove it. By taking control of the narrative and making their disagreements canon, the pair can handle the feud how they want and perhaps even bury the hatchet once and for all.
When Johnson and Diesel join together on screen, fans respond. Both actors have proven they can have success on their own in the Fast and Furious franchise, but when they’re together, they break box office records. For instance, Fate of the Furious once had the best box office opening ever, beating out Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the time with more than $530 million. And the feud has made the pair even more popular, continuing to fuel headlines even now. If the actors would team up again in a new installment in the franchise, it would undoubtedly pay dividends. Even if they continue to butt heads, Fast and Furious 10 could deliver box office numbers on which they can both agree.
