Jason Statham Actioner Beekeeper Adds Jeremy Irons, Emmy

The upcoming Jason Statham action outing, The Beekeeper, has added a host of talent to its supporting cast. Revealed by Deadline, The Beekeeper has attached Oscar winner, Watchmen, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jeremy Irons to proceedings alongside The Umbrella Academy star Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bright and Black Summer actor Bobby Naderi, and The Hunger Games and Future Man star Josh Hutcherson.

The report also reveals that The Beekeeper, which will find Jason Statham on wonderfully familiar ground as a man on a quest for revenge, has now begun filming in the United Kingdom.

Suicide Squad and Training Day director David Ayer will helm Jason Statham’s next foray into action, with the filmmaker working from a script by Kurt Wimmer, who is best known for Law Abiding Citizen, Equilibrium, and Salt.

The Beekeeper was announced at the end of last year and has been described as a “fast-paced action-thriller, which is steeped in the mythology of beekeeping.” Yes, that’s right, beekeeping. Thus, The Beekeeper will follow a man’s personal journey of vengeance, which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as the ‘Beekeepers’ — which sounds tailor-made for a Jason Statham vehicle.

“Having collaborated with Jason on Wrath Of Man and Operation Fortune, and with David on Fury, we are fortunate to partner with these masters of the new action genre to bring Kurt’s brilliant script to the first installment of this franchise,” Miramax CEO Bill Block said in a statement when the project was announced. “The Bee Keeper explores universal themes with an unconventional story that will have fans sitting on the edge of their seats,” Block previously said of the somewhat mysterious project. “We’re excited to bring another iconic and irresistible film to audiences around the globe.”
